Washington Redskins/Jason Campbell Need To Make A Statement posted on 11/28/2008
This Sunday's game pitting the Washington Redskins against The New York Giants is one of those necessary big-boy games that reveals a lot about a team.
The 'skins have made it very clear that they can play with anyone, but that a lot of the time they have trouble with the elite teams in the league. Yes, they had a couple of nice wins in Dallas and in Philadelphia, but both of those teams appeared to be a little overrated. Now the Cowboys may have righted the ship and the once benched Donovan Mcnabb had a huge Thanksgiving day game in front of those hideous Philadelphis fans.
The Redskins now need to make their own statement. In 1991 when they couldn't beat the Giants in the previous few years to save their lives, they went into the Meadowlands 7-0 and everyone sensed a little doom and gloom to their nice season. They beat the Giants that day 17-13 and then they started to believe . The Giants came down to Washington a few weeks later and the 'skins took it to 'em 34-17. The doubt was gone and the season ended with a Super Bowl spanking of the Bills. I'm not necessarily saying that the 'skins are ready to win a Super Bowl, but this could be a statement game for a team with a talented young quarterback. They also need to protect their home field in general, and especially against their division rivals.

Being a native Washingtonian, this is a painfully broken record.
I've been living it since their last championship 30 years ago when I was 10 years old. I can still remember the literal dancing in the streets outside my father's restaurant in Georgetown. But then the lights went out.
I didn't realize that when the Washington (Bullets) Wizards moved to their new home some 11 years ago that they actually imported the very same Indian burial ground that used to exist under the Capital Centre to their new building in Chinatown. New building, same curse. MCI/VERIZON/FEDEX/WALMART Center/Arena is just as much a den of horrors as the Cap Center.
There were some flashes of light at the end of the tunnel at various times. Chris Webber. Juwan Howard for a while. Bernard King. Moses Malone. Tom Gugliotta. 5 or 10 minutes of Georghe Muresan.
