     In my last post I stated that I was hopeful we were going to release some players.  All but two of the players I listed were released today, and a few more I didn't even think about were released as well.  Only two other teams released players thus far, and those teams (The Jets and The Bengals) released only one player each (laveranues coles and Thomas Jones).

Coming off a super bowl victory last season, hopes couldn't be higher for the 2009 Pittsburgh Steelers, as they should be.  While the team is returning 20 out of 22 starters from that super bowl run (only losing Larry Foote and Bryant Mcfadden), things begin to look bleak as we look at the possible roster a year from now.  In 2010, the Steelers will have an alarming number of key players that will be free agents if these players do not re-sign.

Every year, the NFL shuffles the deck and teams get new cards. In this eternal poker game, we all know that each team will again ask for new cards after the season ends. This, my friends, is a metaphor. 4.5 years of college in all your mouthpieces.

The NFL Free Agency signing period begins at midnight tonight.  This is always one of the weirdest things in the sports calendar.  Football is such a unique game.  Sometimes a great player for one team won't be a great player anywhere else.  A 3-4 end could be a special teams player on a 4-3 team.  A big 1100 yard receiver could collect dust on a team that runs the west coast offense.
