Jason Campbell

19 March 2010

The Redskins signed Former Bear and Texan Rex Grossman to a one-year deal.

It is believed that ole Rex was signed to replace the aging Todd Collins as the #2 behind JC.  Although.....He did play for Kyle Shanahan (New Redskins Offensive Coordinator) and Matt Lafleur (New Redskins Quarterbacks Coach) in Houston last year.  I believed that he was only signed to help instill the offense Kyle runs, or maybe to mentor some young rookie QB.  The latest that I heard however, was that he is going to be challenging Campbell for the starter position. Let me display my feelings on this notion.

es and could only muster up 4 field goal tries, hardly an impressive outing from the group although Jason Campbell likes to pat himself on the back for "stepping up" as he said in post-game interviews, that alone tells me that this guy does not get it but we'll get to that later. The special teams was not very good as they missed 2 field goals, the second of which was a 50-yarder but definitely makeable. The first one was only 39 yards but, after the debacle by the refs, it wasn't as easy as it should have been. Cartwright was great, he has always been a core player and a symbol of what this team needs more of, guys that give it their all and don't worry so much about their entitlement to things like a starting position. It seems like some guys just have a spot eventhough they don't earn it (Randle-El as a returner....WTF???) and other just don't play their best. The offensive line held together pretty well, Jones was once again solid as he shut out DeMarcus Ware, not exactly an easy feat and kept the Cowboys with their constant blitzes and pass rush off of Campbell for the most part.

nse couldn't move the ball against the Redskins defense, this was a big factor in his production.

Jason Campbell continued to take sacks because of his indecisiveness and still looks like a guy that doesn't have IT, that thing that gives QB's a clock in their head and a feel for the rush that allows them to make a throw right before a defender is about to get to him, look at Peyton Manning play to see exactly what I am talking about. Campbell still doesn't make enough tight throws and takes many sacks because he pats the ball as he only looks for guys that are wide open, something that doesn't occur that often in the NFL. I still don't see him as the answer and know that both he and Zorn will be gone in the offseason, and Cerrato too I hope!

better under Sherm Lewis, they are still not good enough to make any major difference in the game. Jason Campbell, as much as he was battered by the pass rush of Atlanta, still makes the same mistakes and is hesitant, at least 2 of the sacks that he took were on 3-step drops that he pumped on instead of just delivering the ball to his receivers, the mortal combination of a hesitant quarterback and a putrid offensive line is the reason that this offense is as bad as it is. Just once I would love to see Campbell put some heat on one of those throws and try to force it in there, he never wants to make a mistake which causes him to never make any plays, every other quarterback in the NFL has 2 or 3 throws a game where he just throws the ball up and gives his receiver a chance to make a play or gets a penalty that keeps the drive going, Campbell, pumps 3 times, spins around and takes the sack, simply unacceptable for an NFL quarterback to be this indecisive, no matter how bad his offensive line is, he needs to keep his head up and make plays. Aaron Rodgers gets sacked 4 or 5 times a game and still put up 300-plus yards and 2 touchdowns, why can't Campbell do that? Is he not bright enough? Is he so scared that he can't make a mistake that he is unwilling to make the tight throw? I'm not sure why it is but It seems to be that he is so worried about everything that he can't play at this level, I think it's safe to say that he will not be a starter in the NFL in 2010.

19 October 2009

The performance that Jason Campbell put up in one half yesterday was one of the most pitiful performances by a starting QB in the NFL this year, he looked like the twin of JaMarcus Russell (Raiders). He couldn't hit a single open receiver, even though he was constantly under pressure thanks to the porous offensive line, he couldn't even hit the receivers when he had the time. The best decision of the day was to bench him to at least give the offense a quarterback that can make the reads and pick a receiver, though the results were not much better, at least he looked like a real quarterback.

They need to blow this team up and start over, period.

BIGGEST ISSUES ON THE TEAM NOW

QB - Jason Campbell is not to blame for all of the Redskins woes but he is a big part of what is not working. Campbell does not show any confidence out there EVER! He always looks hurried and can't seem to make a simple pass when needed. On Sunday, Campbell threw 2 quick slants; one to Devin Thomas who had to make a great catch just to haul in the pass that was a few feet over his head and the other one was batted down because he threw the ball flat and low, both of those throws are unacceptable for an NFL-type quarterback to make. Campbell is, to sum it up, good when it's not important and a disaster at critical moments. He can make all of the throws and can, in the 2nd or 3rd quarters, make a nice throw in a tight spot but when the game is on the line he usually fizzles and puts a pitiful performance on. When he throws on first down he looks OK but on 3rd and 10 he seems to doubt himself, usually takes a sack or throws the ball away and never seems to make the big play when you need it. There are some QB's that are money players, they show up when needed, maybe they don't have the best stats in the world but when the game is on the line, they come through, Campbell is the exact opposite, he is money in non-pressure situations but a no-show when the game is on the line.

3rd quarter and helped turnaround the game for the squeaker, but none-the-less, a win.

OFFENSE

Jason Campbell was nothing short of horrible in the game's first half yesterday, he was sacked twice on the first 2 plays of the game as he continued to look nervous and was not decisive at all, allowing the defense to collapse on him instead of pulling down the ball and taking off as he did a few times in the second half. The fumble on the 2nd play could have been the disastrous play that has buried this team so often over the last few years. He patted the ball, looked around everywhere and missed his outlet throw to Sellers who was wide open on the sideline then Campbell was hit and fumbled the ball. Less than a few minutes into the game everyone in the stands let out the familiar, "Here we go again!" yell that has so frustrated Redskins fans over the past dreadful decade of a once-proud franchise. He was able to make a few throws but instilled no confidence in those who look at him and compare him to the other quarterbacks in the league, and people still wonder why Cerrato tried to get Cutler or Sanchez,? Nobody can tell me that they don't look much, much better than Campbell ever has.

30 September 2009

Well, after a few days of reflection, mostly to let off some steam after the anger that Sunday's game instilled in me, I am prepared to give an assessment of what is unfolding in Redskins park. Not only did the team lose to the sorry Lions, they were dominated on both sides of the ball, something that was not expected from almost anyone. While most people did actually pick the Lions to beat the Redskins (how sad is that?) nobody expected an ass-whipping like it was.

14 September 2009

Well, here we go again. This team looks just as mediocre as last year's team with a few differences. The Offense still has problems making first downs when they need them and their quarterback looks like he can't do anything at the crucial moments in the game. The defense was OK, they made a few big plays but could not get the Giants off of the field when they needed to and allowed them to take control of the game in the first quarter. The special teams were good with the fake field goal and no major mistakes but shows no signs of explosiveness in any way. The 2nd-year receivers were non-existent and were once again a non-factor in the game. The play-calling was good at times but too repetitive and run-heavy, even-though they could not run against the Giants, other than the first play of the game. Overall, the team looked like it did last year, a team without any explosiveness, aggressiveness and lacking the big play from the offense that could give us some hope.

Disgruntled quarterback Jay Cutler is being sent to the bears in exchange for Chicago Bears quarterback Kyle Orton, a first (18th overall) round pick, and a third (84th overall) round pick this year, and a first round pick next year.  In addition the broncos will receive a 5th rounder this year (whoopdee doo).  Now that I have seen the details of the exchange, i'm glad the Redskins didn't go through with it.  First of all, the Redskins only had 4 total picks this year, trading away 2 of them would have left us with nothing.  I did want Cutler, but that is a price even the Danny couldn't do.  Luckily for us, Campbell is very composed, very mature, and dealing with the situation very well.

Ah, the preseason, the time of year that aspiring undrafted and late-round rookies hope to make a team.  How often does this happen?  More NOT often than not, undrafted rookies have a smaller chance at making the team than Dan Snyder does at having the economy problem affect him.  Yes I know, Stephon Heyer made the team as an undrafted rookie from Maryland.  He was the only Redskins exception in who knows how many years.  Haha, yea I know I'm a freakin blogger and I should know when right? WRONG!  My job is not to throw numbers out there, its to write what I think, and what I gather talking to the real fan on the streets.

Hopefully Jason Campbell will not cement a place in that group. He has had some past difficulties with the carousel of coordinators, but the second half was all on him. He proved what he was capable of the first half of the season and frankley stunk up the joint the second half. He has to accept a great deal of responsibility for that. Do not get me wrong

ier in the year.  Inevitably the media's eye would focus on the obvious position, Redskins' QB Jason Campbell.  Fair or unfair, the responsibility of success and failure become the burden of the leader, however closer inspection of game film will show him not alone in his mistakes.  I'm certain the offense knows it, and know that it's now do or die time with no more room for error.  Only time will tell if they can get it done.

28 November 2008

This Sunday's game pitting the Washington Redskins against The New York Giants is one of those necessary big-boy games  that reveals a lot about a team.

The 'skins have made it very clear that they can play with anyone, but that a lot of  the time they have trouble with the elite teams in the league. Yes, they had a couple of nice wins in Dallas and in Philadelphia, but both of those teams appeared to be a little overrated.  Now the Cowboys may have righted the ship and the once benched Donovan Mcnabb had a huge Thanksgiving day game in front of those hideous Philadelphis fans.

However, the Luchadore has to admit: Yeah, I thought it was over yesterday...now sigh.

One thing I took away from this game? Jason Campbell can get it done, consistently (remember last week against the saints?), under pressure. I mean, not only does he make a courageous comeback against a tough NFC opponent in New Orleans, winning in the last few minutes, he also OUTPLAYED arguably the hottest QB in the NFL in Kurt Warner. Warner had a PERFECT passer rating against the dolphins, and had yet to throw an interception up until he played the Redskins.

the endzone section of a blisteringly hot match between the Saints and Redskins, the offense led by Jason Campbell and brought to DC by Jim Zorn was once again floundering.  I know I wasn't the only one who was approaching near-certainty that this West Coast offense could never work for JC.  I was truly convinced that we were going to be among the worst offenses in the league, a crime considering the talent on the roster.  And then

9 September 2008

As I've stated before, one of Jason Campbell's biggest issues is holding on to the ball and second guessing the coverage.

Santana Moss, against the Giants, could have had more on the boards.  The problem was Jason took too long to make a decision. It's one of those things that every quarterback has to get over early.

31 August 2008

It was recently announced that Jason Campbell will take the helm as Redskins QB and I think that's ok and all but he's gotta let go of that ball. He's going to kill the offensive line if he thinks they can hold the line for 20 seconds. That's just crazy. He just doesn't have that type of line from what I've seen thus far. Now they might have something to still show against NY but I don't know. This is going to rely on him getting rid of that ball quicker than he has. Washington Redskins Quarterbacks have had a long way to go when it comes to getting a good pace started so we'll see...

For one, young Quarterback Jason Campbell looked fantastic. He made some mistakes but the one word to describe him best is, "poised." With Campbell under center, I have complete confidence that the Redskins have a chance. I have never felt that before. I say again, I have never felt that before. I didn't feel that when Trent Green was there, when Brad Johnson was there or even when Brunell was in Pro Bowl form. Everyone can see the physical tools that Campbell posses. He's 6'5, can run, has a cannon arm and has great accuracy. The thing that impresses me the most, however, is the calm that he emits on the field.

say "I told you so" in the future, I want to express my firmly held belief right now that Jason Campbell is the real deal.  He's the second coming of Donovan McNabb, but with more of a competitive fire within (something you can develop playing at Auburn, as opposed to Syracuse).  I am fully confident that he will be an elite quarterback for the better part of the next decade, which will keep the Skins in the division and conference race almost every year.  Really it's good we have someone to match the suddenly impressive Eli Manning.  Nothing Campbell showed in 06 and 07 has led me to think otherwise.
