Redskins Rumored to be interested in Disgruntled Jay Cutler

Ok, I touched on the draft and free agency.  Now its time to talk about the big rumor floating around the league.  Jay Cutler is unhappy in Denver because his new coach tried to get another quarterback for the team.  Although I don't agree with the way Josh Mcdaniels handled the situation, he is entitled to try and improve his team as he sees fit.  I don't think Matt Cassel is anywhere near as good a quarterback as Cutler is, but its his team.

Jay Cutler passed for over 4500 yards, 25 touchdowns, and a 62 percent completion percentage.  Matt Cassel passed for 3600 yards, 21 touchdowns, and did have a better completion percentage and rating.  His team was 10 times better though, on every side of the ball.  Tyler Thigpen would have had the same year in New England if he had that team.  Mcdaniels just wanted his guy there with him.  Its understandable, he trusts him, knows him, and believes in him.  It didn't work out, now he needs to repair his relationship with one of the best quarterbacks in the league.

    I have a solution!

Since I have never believed in Jason Campbell, and still don't, we should go get him.  Don't get me wrong, I like the guy, I just don't think he belongs in this system.  Its a spread offense that needs a big arm who can spread it around.  Cutler brings that, Cutler brings all of that.  Denver would want a starting quarterback in return and probably a draft pick of some kind.  We can give them Campbell, and one of our 4 draft picks, we don't use them anyway.  Campbell is better and more proven than the other 2 quarterbacks other teams have considered offering.

The New York Jets could offer Kellen Clemens who is a starter, but is 3-5 and not really all that good.

The Cleveland Browns can offer Brady Quinn who is not a starter yet, and had a season-ending injury last year.

The only difference is that they have draftpicks to offer.  But they would want a proven starter in return to come right in and play.  They signed Chris Simms, who I believe is good, but not a career starter.  The only other quarterback on their team is third year man Darrell Hackney who will never be a starter.  Lets send Jason and a third rounder to them and get one of the best quarterbacks in the league.

When is the last time the Redskins had a top 5 quarterback?  Whens the last time we had a quarterback pass for more than 4000 yards?  When's the last time we had a pro-bowl quarterback?  Too long.  Jay Cutler is young, fiery, has a passion for the game, and will light up the field.  Our receivers will be instantly better, which will make our running game better, and our defense better.  Yes, one player can make a difference just like that.  I know I moaned about our free agency splash, but this is different.  This is something that we don't do often, we go after free agents and make stupid mistakes, and overpay them.  He is still under a rookie contract for another couple years.  We can work out a long-term deal after this season if need be.  Our trades have been up and down,  but we have a good history with trading in Denver.  Remember Clinton Portis?  This would be a perfect fit.

If our defense turns out to be a top 5 defense (like it should), we will have a pretty complete team.  Jay Cutler can make us a top 10 offense, then we will be a feared team.  When Jay Bird is happy, he is very very good.  They had the number 2 overall offense last year if i'm not mistaken, with unknown players.  Want to know why?  Jay Cutler.  He's like Favre was in the mid to late 90s.  He's a gunslinger, and he can make our speedy receivers go down the field.  What was one of our biggest faults last year?  Big plays, down the field, and touchdowns.  I'm certain we can solve all of those problems with the Jay Bird.  Mabye its just me, but i'm itching to have a manchild at quarterback.  Go Bird!

  1. You forgot to mention that Chicago and Detroit are itching for a QB.  Detroit can offer this years # 1 pick in the draft and take a pass on Matthew Stafford who is an unproven commodity.  If they do get Cutler it will be a trajedy that they let Roy Williams go.  As far as the skins go, I think you are on the money with Cutler fitting perfectly into Jim Zorn's scheme. Maybe Danny Boy can offer up this years # 1 pick and Campbell if thats what it takes to get the job done.   We will have holes on the offensive line to fill but hopefully Cutler can get rid of the ball fast enough to avoid the sacks that Campbell endured last year.
