What The Skins should do with their draft picks...

Round 1- Cam Newton, QB, Auburn

This sounds crazy I know, but hear me out I will make you believe I promise.

The Redskins biggest draft needs right now in this order are QB, WR, DB, RB, LB

At #10 in the draft the possibilities are weird. With the Titans, 49ers, Cardinals, Bills, and Panthers selecting before us you would think they would all want a QB because they need it.

The Titans can survive with Kerry Collins for a year or two, the 49ers will trade for a veteran (see Mcnabb, Marc Bulger, or Kevin Kolb), the Cardinals have John Skelton and Max Hall either of which could develop into a starter, the Bills are going forward with Ryan Fitzpatrick, and the Panthers are gonna give Clausen one more year since Andrew Luck decided to stay at school.  So, that leaves the Redskins as the first team to select a QB in the draft.  Most people will say he isn't worth a top 10 pick, neither was Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisburger,  Tim Tebow, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, etc.

The Skins really need a Corner to replace ole butterfingers Rogers, but the 1st round Corners are off the board at this point.  They also need a new threat at WR but, A.J. Green is off the board and another big threat won't be available for a while.  The best lineman are off the board, so that leaves QB as the position of need.  They have their choice between Blaine Gabbert, Ryan Mallet, Newton, Jake Locker, and Pat Devlin.  Lets break them all down real quick.

Blaine Gabbert- He has been FLYING up draft boards everywhere.  His is very inconsistant, inaccurate, and his weight and work ethic flucuate too much, not sure why he got so popular.

Ryan Mallet- Big arm, big body, but he makes bad decisions and puts too much into his arm (Think Patrick Ramsey).

Jake Locker- Had Locker hit the draft last year he would have been the #1 overall pick and would have made a fortune (Sam Bradford should thank Jake).  He was praised for his NFL-ready intangibles but going back to school hurt him and now he looks like a project.

Pat Devlin- Another Delaware product (See Joe Flacco).  He may not have the size and arm that Flacco has but he is very smart and makes very good decisions.  He is a very quiet QB with great intangibles and a will to make it at the next level.  If the Skins could trade down or use that first pick on another position I would love for them to take Devlin in the 2nd round.

So, who does that leave?  Cam Newton.  Granted, he is a work in progress, but he could be the next Vick, or Cunningham, or Steve Young even.  He needs good coaching which we have, time learning behind a veteran which we have, and no pressure to carry an entire team right away which we also have.  They are comparing him to Vince Young.  I think they should compare him to Steve Mcnair.  We let him sit while we build a team around him and then let him shine.  Spend some picks on a RB to help Torain, a couple of WR's to replace Moss and company eventually, and some CB's and Safetys to complete the team.

2nd Round- Janoris Jenkins, Florida, CB

If he is available I would die to have this kid on the team.  He is probably the most underrated player in this draft.  He has incredible cover skills and just gets after the ball.  He would compliment Deangelo Hall greatly.  At Florida he had 106 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 2 sacks, 8 inerceptions, and a defensive TD.

3rd round- Traded to New Orleans for Jamaal Brown

4th round- Donovan Mcnabb trade

5th Round- Ryan Williams, Virginia Tech, RB

Through thirteen games he has rushed for 1,655 yards on 293 carries, scored 21 touchdowns, and has broken multiple Virginia Tech and ACC rushing records in the process including Virginia Tech's single season rushing yards records with 1,655 yards, the ACC single season rushing touchdown record with 21 touchdowns, and the ACC single season touchdown record with 22 touchdowns.  He will be a great compliment to Torain for years.  The Skins wil have a great young backfield without any drama, goodbye Clinton.

6th Round- Leonard Hankerson, Miami, WR

As a true freshman in 2007, Hankerson started two of seven games, and had six receptions for 63 yards and a touchdown. As a sophomore in 2008 he started two of eight games, making 11 receptions for 140 yards and two touchdowns. As a junior in 2009, he became a full time starter. He started 12 of 13 games and finished the season with 45 receptions for 801 yards and six touchdowns.  He might not sound like much but he is, Jordan Shipley, Mike Williams, and even We Welker were considered duds.

7th Round- Stanley Havili, FB, USC

While starting all 13 games, he gained 134 yards on 21 carries (6.4 avg.) with 2 TDs and caught 34 passes for 248 yards (7.3 avg.) with 5 TDs. He was a 2007 Phil Steele's All-Pac-10 honorable mention pick. At Nebraska, he ran for 52 yards on 2 carries (including a 50-yarder on USC's opening play) with a 2-yard TD run and caught 3 passes for 22 yards with a 5-yard TD. He is also a great blocker, and could pave the road for the new RB's for many years, bye bye Mike Sellers.
